Darling Brides Of May - Part 1 - Wedding Hair and Make-up
This article features our Hair & Make-up brides of May 2013.
Big and bouncy was the requirement for Leah who got married at the Great Barn in Higher Ashton wearing a gorgeous mermaid style wedding dress. With vintage glamour the overall theme of the wedding, the main focus of her hair was the stunning bejewelled upturned-leaf designed hair slide that was placed on one side of the head. Leah's make-up was simple yet elegant with a strong emphasis on vintage make-up techniques.
The use of a defined socket shadow brought out the natural shape of Leah's eyes whilst accentuating the natural contours of her bone structure. Liquid eyeliner defined the eyes whilst a soft pink lipstick brought the whole hair and make-up look together.
Leah's bridesmaids dress was inspired by Pippa Middleton's dress that she wore for the wedding of Kate and William in 2012.
Using Pippa Middleton's wedding hair as inspiration the bridesmaids hair took shape. Big soft curls cascading down the back with volume at the roots being brought back into a half-up style that was finished with a large feature diamante comb.
There are occasions when it is simply not possible to have a bridal rehearsal before the big day. This was just the case for Kate's wedding where her work schedule in Luton meant that it was not possible for her to make a trial beforehand. In order to keep the morning as relaxed as possible Jai and Kate spoke in detail about Kate's likes and dislikes as well as exchanging e-mails and pictures of Kate and images of styles that bride was keen on. On the morning of the wedding Jai arrived early so that there was plenty of time to talk through everything and get the exact look Kate was after.
Anne Boleyn was the inspiration for Kate's bespoke blue wedding dress and so she wanted a hairstyle that was in keeping with the look whilst retaining a contemporary edge. Kate had a large blue artificial flower that was placed in her hair which matched exactly the flowers warn on her 4 flower girls dresses. As the flower was a statement piece it was important not to over complicate the hairstyle. With height created all around the face Jai created a style that swept the hair away from the face and was brought back into a chignon of delicate twist and loops that ran across the back of her hair.
As Kate did not wear make-up usually she wanted to keep her wedding make-up to minimum and yet wear enough to make her look and feel fabulous on her big day! With the use of BareMinerals(TM) foundations Jai was able to give Kate the finish she was after with light make-up that completed her look and lasted all day.
After the wedding Jai received a thank you e-mail from Kate's aunt who wrote:
Just wanted to write to you to underline my thanks for how wonderful you were on Saturday. You took me back to my BBC days in drama when the make-up girls kept the artistes calm and got them ready to face anything and a bride needs exactly the same reassurance. Kate was very relaxed by the time she left the make-up room and she floated up the aisle with a hairdo and make-up that suited her so well. It isn't as easy as people think it is. I expect you are not short of good references but if you ever want another one please come back to me - you're a star.
Jai also received an e-mail from Kate's father who wrote:
Thanks again for the fabulous work you did getting Kate ready for the wedding on Saturday. She looked great - you captured exactly what she wanted, a natural look and she really did look lovely. I was also most impressed by how easy you made it all, and how well you kept Kate relaxed through the morning.
St Audries Park in Somerset was the beautiful setting for Suzanne's wedding over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Suzanne wanted a straight hairstyle that was both contemporary and classic that featured her sparkling hair slide.
By giving height at the crown (that acted as support for the floor length veil) and sweeping the side sections underneath the back to allow the hair to fall over itself down the back, Jai create a style that combined a traditional half-up/half-down ponytail hair style with a modern bridal twist.
Using colours such as Cinder and Champagne Jai created soft smoky eyes that were finished off with black eyeliner and individual false eyelashes to give an extra wedding Wow!
Suzanne's adult bridesmaid kept it classical with a twisted side chignon that was finished off with a fake white flower orchid at the back. Whilst her two flower girls, with their thick long hair, opted for an age-appropriate style that kept the hair off their faces whilst working with their naturally wavy hair type. Both flower girls had a traditional French braid around their front hair line that then joined into cascading curls that flowed down their back.
